Peru

Peru is a wonderful and very diverse country in Southern America bordering with Ecuador and Columbia in the north, with Brasil in the east, with Bolivia in the south-east, and with Chile in the south.

Peru has approximately 28 million inhabitants and the main language is Spanish followed by Quechua, the language spoken by the Inkas.

Most of the population is catholic and lives in traditional three-generations households.

The Project is established in the province of Lima. Lurin is one of the 43 districts that make up the Lima province. It was created on January 2, 1857, and since then it has been an agricultural district as it is located in the center of the LurĂn River valley. It has a few beaches which receive tourists during the summer months (December-March) principally from the city of Lima which it is gradually being incorporated into.

Volunteers stay in a beach house provided by a local priest in the nicer part of Lurin. Commute to the projects is therefore short and takes approximately 10 minutes.
